April 1, 2012 Pandasana
Pandas love practicing asanas. And bamboo. And being ridiculously adorable.
This panda loves Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend ). This is also one of Amanda Panda’s favorites (that’s me!).
This pose helps to calm the brain and can relieve headaches and insomnia. It strengthens the thighs and knees while stretching the hamstrings, calves and hips.
This pose may look simple, but it is important to extend through the hips and not the waist when folding forward. You want to eventually work towards having your fingers or hands touching the floor and straightening the legs, but it is important to keep a microbend in the knees to avoid hyperextension. I love to do this pose when I am feel achy or exhausted. Just hang out it in. Like a panda.
